The Dumont Nickel Project is RNC's principal property. This 100%-owned project is located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region of Québec, within the Launay and Trécesson municipalities about 25 km west of the city of Amos. The property can be accessed from Highway 111, and the project's area of interest – a nickel sulphide deposit – lies north of this highway. This mammoth ore deposit was first described in the 1970s.

According to the Technical Report by Micon International Limited (compliant with Regulation 43-101 respecting standards of disclosure for mineral projects), the Dumont Nickel Project contains a measured resource of approximately 156 million tonnes at 0.29% nickel, an indicated resource of 1 billion tonnes at 0.27% nickel and an inferred resource of 581 million tonnes at 0.25% nickel, respectively containing about 1.6, 6.0 and 3.2 billion pounds of nickel.

The proposed mining method for the Dumont Nickel Project is by open pit. RNC expects the Dumont Nickel Project to rank as the fourth-largest nickel sulphide operation in the world (by annual production), based on a projected throughput of 100,000 tonnes per day, as cited in the Technical Report, and other data from existing nickel sulphide operations, as compiled by Brook Hunt, a Wood Mackenzie company.

The project is currently at an advanced stage of exploration and at the prefeasibility study phase. It benefits from a strategic location near a hydroelectric power grid and natural gas network, with access to roads and railroads.

A lot of the work to develop the deposit has been carried out from RNC's regional office in Amos. The activities can be summarized as follows:

  • 90,000 metres of drilling;
  • the development of a processing flowsheet in the pilot plant;
  • the preliminary characterization of tailings, waste rock and ore;
  • the environmental characterization of the site and its surroundings;
  • a preliminary groundwater study.
